Brandy, basil, and a little intrigue

Brandy, basil, and a little intrigue...

Hi Reader!

Yes, it's been a little quiet around here. Well, in this newsletter, anyway. Here at the house it's been crazy. But, we’ve been tinkering again — this time with basil straight from the garden. The Basil Directive starts with brandy, Cointreau, and a few dashes of orange bitters, all stirred together with lightly muddled basil. It’s the kind of mix that feels fancy without demanding you wear anything besides slippers.

Once it’s strained over a big ice cube, a slapped mint sprig goes on top. Yes, you literally give it a gentle smack. It’s fun, it wakes up the oils, and you’ll look like you know what you’re doing. The result is a glass that smells like someone upgraded your backyard herb patch with a liquor license.

Flavor-wise, think of a brandy Old Fashioned that wandered into the garden and decided to stay awhile. It’s smooth, fragrant, and just a little bit playful — perfect for slow evenings when you want something that tastes intentional without being serious about it. Raise a glass and consider yourself successfully directed.

If you make this, let me know what you think. I look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers!

Bob
