This seemed like a good idea...

I made a new cocktail:
Blood Orange & Rosemary Bourbon Sour
Soft citrus, warm bourbon, a short herbal echo at the end.

Why I Tried This
This started as a way to use up a blood orange and rosemary liqueur left over from an earlier experiment. It already had citrus and herbal notes baked in, so building a bourbon sour around it felt like a sensible next step rather than a brand-new idea. Sometimes that’s the best place to start.

How It Turned Out
Sweetness:
- Moderately low
- The liqueur brings sweetness, but it stays in check
Balance:
- Lemon provides the structure
- Blood orange rounds things out
- Rosemary sits quietly in the background instead of taking over
Mouth Feel:
- Smooth with a little weight
- More rounded than a straight lemon sour, but still lively
Notes & Fine Tuning
The liqueur is doing a lot of work here, so it’s worth tasting as you go. If the herbal notes feel too forward, a touch more lemon reins things in quickly. A slightly higher-proof bourbon keeps the drink from drifting sweet and helps the finish stay clean.
Flavor Expectation
Bright lemon up front, followed by warm bourbon and soft citrus, with a restrained herbal note lingering at the end. Familiar in structure, a little different in execution.
Worth repeating? I’ll let you decide.
