This seemed like a good idea: The White Lady Sour

This seemed like a good idea...

Same cocktail, one adjustment:

The White Lady Sour

Elegant, brisk, and a little stronger than it looks.

Why I Tried This

I wanted to go with a gin-based sour that wasn't your typical gin sour. The White Lady adds sweet orange notes - usually provided by Cointreau, but in this case, a locally-produced triple sec - in addition to tart lemon for a cocktail that is clean, sharp, and elegant.

Did you try this recipe?

How It Turned Out

Sweetness:

  • Dry overall with just a hint of sweetness from the orange liqueur
  • Crisp and refreshing rather than round or soft

Balance:

  • Bright lemon up front, gin botanicals through the middle
  • A textbook sour: sharp, clean, and beautifully aligned

Mouth Feel:

  • Light and brisk with a quick, tidy finish
  • Optional egg white can add a silky top without dulling the snap

Notes & Fine Tuning

If the lemon feels a little too punchy, just ease up a splash — or sneak in an extra barspoon of orange liqueur to smooth the edges. A classic London Dry keeps things sharp; a more botanical gin softens the mood. And if you’re a foam-on-top person, that egg white will give it a silky upgrade without making the drink sweet.

Flavor Expectation

Bright citrus leads, gin botanicals show up quick, and the finish is clean enough to make you feel like you’re having a classy moment. In short: crisp, elegant, and not here to coddle you.

Worth repeating? I’ll let you decide.

Cheers!
